You Only Get One Life, So Do It Right!

posted on 27 December 2012

I keep healthy by eating right and exercising. This sounds deceptively simple and I think that it is actually much more complex than that one sentence makes it sound. I start most of my days off with an hour at the gym. This is often hard, especially when it is cold in the winter or I need to get up very early and go before work. However, once I am done I am always glad that I did it. I eat healthy as well which means that quite a bit of fruits, veggies, and lean meats are involved in my diet. I have sweets and junk food on occasion, too, as everything is fine in moderation. I try to end the day with a walk as it is good exercise and I personally find this experience to be therapeutic, and for me it acts as a natural cure for insomnia. Also, when I do not feel well I do my best to take care of myself and allow myself to get the rest that I need. If I have any questions regarding my health I go to the doctor to discuss the concerns with my physician.

Pearls: What Every Woman Should Have

posted on 8 December 2012

I own two strands of pearls. One is a white strand of pearls that my mother gave me and they are natural pearls. The other is a black strand, that are cultured pearls, that I bought on sale many years ago. They go with ANY accessory - from clutch bags to pashminas! I love my pearls and have worn them many times throughout the years. I have worn them for every occassion, and they have stood the test of time. I wear them with my casual clothes with a nice pair of jeans and a button down shirt. I have worn pearls with my business clothes, for an evening out, and to funerals and weddings. They have never went out of style and they have complemented almost everything piece of clothing in my wardrobe. They are such a versatile piece of jewelry and can be worn many ways. Wearing as single strand, which many women do, or worn as multiple strands, they can dress up any part of my wardrobe. I have been complimented many times, and my pearls will always be a part of my jewelry collection. The Fear of Losing My Tooth

posted on 11 October 2012

I was eating lunch with my best friend last week and as I bit down, I realized I was chewing pieces of my tooth! Every time I heard the crunch, I thought my tooth was slowly falling apart. I very quickly rushed to the dentist down the street where I had only been there once. I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I waited, as they brought me back for an emergency procedure. I was in tears, scared but the moment the dentist came back to see me, and introduced himself as Dr. Lynn, I felt a huge amount of relief. You could hear the calmness in his voice and he seemed extremely knowledgeable. He explained to me that there had been a cavity building for more than a year that got so bad that an infection grew into my gums. He said it was only a matter of time before my tooth broke and I started feeling pain. It was only a coincidence that it broke while I was eating. He performed an emergency root canal, repaired the tooth, removed a lot of tooth scructure, and some of the gum line, all of which were very comfortable during the procedure. He was so careful, caring, and calm. I could also see they took great care in keeping things ultra-clean in the dentists, with all kinds of cleaning dental instruments around. It really made the experience a lot less stressful once he was in the room. Now, my tooth is all better, mouth feels great, all because of this great dentist.

Dentists Are Your Friend, Not Your Foe

posted on 6 October 2012

Are you afraid of going to the dentists? Most people will say ''no'', even though, deep down, they know it's not an honest response. I am one of them. If you ask me that question, in a split second I would say ''no'', but just the thought of ''going to the dentist'' gives me the chills, and I know that is foolish of me. They are not there to hurt me, but to help me, and yet there is still this invisible force that prevents me to go and schedule an appointment with my local London orthodontics. ''This will just hurt a little, but you will feel much better after'' - something the dentist was always saying to me when I was a kid, and honestly, I thought he was just sugar-coating (excuse the pun) the truth. But today I completely understand their words and I am ready to sacrifice myself to that ''little pain'' in order to eat the ice cream, or drink the Coke, without twitching my head every time my tooth hurts. You do not have to believe me, see it for yourself. And after that, whenever someone asks you ''are you afraid of the dentist?'' your answer will be ''Why should I, they are just going to help me?'' A Look at the Rise of Cosmetic Dentistry

posted on 11 September 2012

There's a general trend I've noticed among dentists I see: many of them seem to think of themselves as orthodontists, preferring to deal with aesthetics rather than medical problems, and for sure, cosmetic dentistry is on the rise - there's a all on 4 dentist nearby where I live for example. And another example - my sister has weak enamel and yet was recommended for bleaching, once, which would certainly look lovely but do absolutely nothing to help the more important problem- quite the opposite. My own dentists often comment on my mouth- overlap on my upper incisors, a four-square of teeth in my mandible with one canine in front and one incisor behind, no adult molars, minor crossbite...- as if my teeth simply appeared overnight, suddenly and without my knowing as if I wasn't aware of the problems my teeth have, and as if I wasn't used to them by now, after years and years of having my own teeth. (It's not particularly difficult to learn to floss crowded teeth, nor to keep toothpicks on hand to get out bits of food that get caught in the four-square.) Sometimes I wonder if this is because they're so used to their own (appropriately pretty) teeth that they can't imagine anything else is bearable. I respect the profession and the years of training that it takes to become a dentist (and the work dentists have already done for the endless train-wreck that is my mouth) but really, unless they plan to pay for my braces right there, and do them right then, I think my dentists need to hush about my crooked teeth and focus more on checking the x-ray images for tooth decay.

So Do You Hate the Dentist?

posted on 18 August 2012

Like most people I don't care very much for Dentists, even though I know how important they are in maintaining my oral health. While we all know that dentists clean our teeth and fill cavities but still most people don't realize just how important that semi annual visit to their dentist can be. Dentists are doctors and regular visits to the dentist give them a good oral history of your health. Many times dentists find mouth cancers much earlier than other doctors would and with the link of oral health to heart disease Dentists are often the first line of defense for overall health. Your dentist is an important part of any health routine and the benefits could save your life, or at least give you a killer smiles. Yes, I have anxieties about visiting my dentist in W1, but I go to see him every six months as recommended, not only for my teeth but for my overall health.

Great Aromatherapy Oils for Pregnancy and Childbirth

posted on 17 July 2012

Having a baby is one of the most exciting and frightening times of any mother’s life. A selection of aromatherapy oils can help women through many of the symptoms, discomforts and pain of pregnancy and childbirth. If morning sickness is a problem, use oils of ginger and lemon to relieve the nausea. If you’re at home, use an oil burner with just a few drops of oil in some water. Combine both for extra effect. If you are at work, or somewhere you can’t use a burner, put a couple of drops on a handkerchief and inhale them from time to time. Lavender oil will aid sleep, you can put a few drops on your pillow or, again, in a burner. Keep some handy for after the birth, as a few drops in the bath encourages healing of an episiotomy or painful tearing. It also has great antiseptic properties, which will help keep your wound clean. Oils can also be mixed with carrier oils for massage purposes, such as sweet almond or grapeseed oil. Rubbing these into your growing belly may help you to avoid stretch-marks. Clary Sage helps to condition the uterus and encourages contractions. Don’t use it before 38 weeks, in case it brings on early labor. Combine it with jasmine essential oils and Marjoram for aiding painkilling and relaxation.
